Union Saint-Gilloise failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead against Club Brugge on Sunday. Ultimately, the match ended in a 2-2 draw in the Dudenpark. Despite the missed chance to win, coach Sébastien Pocognoli had mixed feelings afterwards.
“It was a high-level tactical match, with goals, saves and quality on both sides,” he said, as quoted by RTBF. “We would have liked to finish it at home, but Bruges proved to be a strong team, especially in difficult moments. It's good to be disappointed because that means we played a good game.”
Pocognoli pointed out that Bruges' quick goal was a turning point. “The 2-1 came too quickly and we did not handle the second ball well for the equalizer,” he analyzed. However, he emphasized that the club can be proud of the series of twelve unbeaten matches. “This result shows that we are on the right track. It is important to build on this, both for the rest of the season and for the next match.”
The next assignment will be an away match against KAA Gent, where Union will have to make do without the suspended Kevin Mac Allister and Christian Burgess. “These are important links in our defense, but we have enough quality to absorb this,” Pocognoli assured.
