Winds will ease and temperatures will pick up as south-westerly winds drag plenty of cloud bringing mild and gloomy conditions across the UK. Damp for some of us, but will it rain on Christmas Day?
A cold and frosty start on Monday morning, particularly across Scotland and eastern areas of England with some icy patches possible. It will then be dry and chilly with spells of sunshine during the morning, but clouds will thicken from the west during the day as a warm front approaches.
Milder air will spread across the UK
Outbreaks of rain will spread across Northern and into Wales and western regions of Scotland and England during Monday afternoon but will generally be light and patchy in nature. Temperatures will pick up slightly when in that warm sector, bringing highs of 8°C for Belfast. A touch cooler further east with highs climbing to 7°C for London and 6°C for Birmingham.
Cloudy during the evening and overnight with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing eastwards, the heaviest of which will be across the Northern Isles and most places should be largely dry by dawn.
A lot of cloud around on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, and this cloud cover may be thick enough to bring outbreaks of patchy light rain and drizzleespecially across northern and western Scotland. Most places should escape mainly dry and it will be significantly milder for all areas with highs of 12°C Norwich, 12°C for Cardiff and 12°C for. Glasgow.
Will Father Christmas remain dry on Christmas Eve night?
A dry night will follow with cloudy skies, making it difficult for the majority of regions to catch a glimpse of Father Christmas, and for those across the far north-west, some gifts may arrive damp as there will be some patchy outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. A mild night under that thick cloud cover.
Similar weather on Christmas Day as most areas will remain dry but dull and grey with cloudy skies and limited bright or sunny spells developing. Outbreaks of patchy rain and drizzle will affect northern and western regions of Scotland from time to time. Remaining mild for all with light winds and highs will climb to 12°C for London, 11°C for Birmingham and 12°C for Aberdeen.
Boxing Day will see further dry and cloudy weather, with some just some brighter spells developing from time to time and outbreaks of rain will continue to linger across the far north and west of Scotland as a cold front remain stationary.
