Rey Misterio Sr., the uncle of World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Rey Mysterio, has passed away.
He was 66.
TMZ reports Misterio died on Friday, but there are no details surrounding his death.

His son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio (Miguel Aarón López Hernández), confirmed the news via Facebook on Friday.
“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, King Misterio Sr. Passed away this morning,” he wrote. “will keep you informed Thank you.”
Wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer posted on X/Twitter about Misterio’s passing: “So sorry to hear about the death of the original Rey Misterio (Sr.), Miguel Lopez, at 66, the uncle of the WWE star. In his heyday he was almost like Tijuana’s version of Jerry Lawler in Memphis. As a trainer, his track record matches the best, his nephew, the original Psicosis, Konnan, Halloween and Damian all in the same class.”
Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide shared the following statement via X/Twitter:
“We regret the sensitive death of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.”
Born Miguel Ángel López Díaz in Tijuana in 1955, Misterio first trained to become a boxer before pursuing professional wrestling and lucha libre. He debuted in ring in 1976.
He reached new heights in 1990 when he appeared at World Championship Wrestling’s “Starrcade” pay-per-view, where he teamed with WCW and New World Order legend Konnan (both representing Mexico) in the “Pat O’Connor Memorial International Cup. They would lose to The Steiner Brothers in the second round of the event after defeating Chris Adams and Norman Smiley in the first.
Misterio is uncle to WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, whom he trained, and grand uncle to current WWE performer Dominik Mysterio.
He once held the Revolution Tag Team Championship with his son El Hijo de Rey Misterio as well as the WWA Tag Team Championship in the World Wrestling Association, and he was inducted into the Tijuana Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
