Three adult cats, aged three years, who had been abandoned in an apartment in Cuers for at least three months, were rescued from their deplorable condition. Alerted by the municipal police, the gendarmes of the Cuers – Pierrefeu territorial brigade went this Thursday to the scene where a strong pestilential odor was emanating. After dispelling the doubt of a possible death on site of the occupant who did not respond to the owner's calls, the investigators noted that the three cats, one male and two females, had been left to their own devices.
Informed by the gendarmes, the Lou Gatoun de Korian association was able to go to the scene. In their misfortune, “As the door to the apartment was not closed, neighbors managed to keep them inside and feed them. But we also noticed that they had eaten placo, paper and dry pasta. …”, commented this Friday, Isabelle, responsible for the structure, shocked by the deplorable living conditions of these animals as observed on site by investigators and volunteers.
The association filed a complaint for animal abuse
Left to their own devices, the poor animals moved around in an environment surrounded by beer cans, syringes and excrement.
“This Friday morning, I filed a complaint for animal abuse. As the cats are under legal protection, they cannot be put up for adoption right away. Thanks to our network, we were able to urgently find foster families for these three “babies”. The male was taken this Friday morning to the veterinary clinic to be castrated and identified. This Friday, we are picking up the two females to also take them to the veterinarian,” commented Isabelle, president of the young association, created last June, and well versed in the animal cause. Once they have received the necessary care, the animals will be returned to their foster families.
Seized, the gendarmes who identified the family renting the property sought to find out whether their absence was voluntary or not. In all cases, the offense relating to the abandonment of animals has already been noted, and the tenant of the premises is likely to be subject to prosecution.
