Oh, but what a surprise.
The ax fell this Friday morning: supporters of Olympique de Marseille will not be able to travel to Saint-Étienne on Sunday for the 32e Sunday’s Cup final. This decision comes from a decree of the Ministry of the Interior published today in Official Journal. In the latter, Bruno Retailleau, the Minister of the Interior, justified this choice: « A real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs exists. […] Disturbances to public order and violent behavior by Saint-Étienne supporters during matches between ASSE and a club with which there is a particular rivalry persist in Saint-Étienne, despite the implementation of control measures movement of supporters by the prefect of the Loire. »
Deprived of travel to Geoffroy-Guichard twice in less than a month
Still according to Retailleau, the decree of the prefect of the Loire banning parking, driving on public roads and access to the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium and the city center of Saint-Étienne for OM supporters does not was therefore not sufficient. As a reminder, Marseille supporters were already unable to attend the Ligue 1 match between the two teams on December 8which ended in a solid Marseille victory (0-2).
For once, Rachid Zeroual has nothing to do with it.
