Cloudy and cold Friday with highs in the 40s, light rain chances possible

WASHINGTON (7News) — Plan for a cloudy and colder Friday with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s. There’s a slight chance for a few raindrops, mixing with snowflakes. No accumulation is expected. The pavement may be a bit wet at times, but otherwise, it will be a low-impact weather day.

Lingering stray rain or snow shower chance until midnight. Otherwise, plan for dry and cold weather overnight.

The First Alert Weather will be on a COLD ALERT for Saturday. Bundle up for all of your outdoor plans, which are expected to be in very cold and blustery conditions. Wind chills will be in the 20s throughout the day with the highest wind gusts through the morning and afternoon hours.

Saturday is also the winter solstice or the first day of winter. The solstice occurs at 4:21 a.m. marking the time with the northern hemisphere is tilted farthest away from the sun all year. This gives us the shortest amount of daylight hours all year.

On Sunday, the first full day of winter will likely be one of the coldest since the turn of the century. Highs will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s with wind chills in the teens and 20s. Make sure you are properly bundled for all of your outdoor plans, including sitting outside for the Commanders and Ravens games.
