NWS alerts in effect HERE.
Snow showers scatter across Upper Michigan Thursday, spun up by a system crossing central Lake Michigan. The dynamics of the low-pressure system and lake effect snow can produce heavy bursts of snow to areas south — Southern Dickinson, Menominee, Delta and Southern Schoolcraft Counties. A ‘First Alert Weather Day’ is issued for these areas of the Southern U.P. through early Friday morning — the first significant snow event of the season. Overnight through Friday morning, a round of lake effect snow from Lake Superior can fall with moderate and briefly heavy intensity to impact the morning commute. Snow showers briefly taper Friday afternoon before another round sets up in the evening.
