A new snowy episode is expected on Sunday evening in the Pyrenees, enough to spoil the resorts and skiers just before Christmas.
This is a new gift for ski resorts coming on Christmas Eve. While all the areas of the Hautes-Pyrénées open their slopes this weekend for the holidays, a new significant snow episode is expected to hit the Pyrenees. And this despite the warm weather felt in recent days, particularly on Wednesday when the thermometer showed 20°C at the foot of the mountains.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be rather humid. It is on Sunday evening that this new Pyrenean blockage should begin, a phenomenon already responsible for the heavy snowfall at the beginning of December. A winter episode which should last until Monday evening or Tuesday morning according to Météo Pyrénées.
According to current forecasts, the blockage promises to be short but intense with a rain and snow limit at 700 meters on Monday and powder snow accumulations could approach one meter from 1,500 meters above sea level. The accumulations promise to be very homogeneous across the entire Pyrenean massif.

“With the sustained northerly wind at altitude, the high snow intensities and a very marked risk of avalanches, it is a safe bet that the conditions will be very delicate. We are also at a very busy time of year in our mountains. Be careful of the risk of chaos on the roads”, reminds Météo Pyrénées.
