Light snow to cover Metro Detroit with more snow expected overnight into Friday morning

4Warn Weather – Most of the region has seen a little bit of snow Thursday afternoon and early Thursday evening, leaving a light coating of snow on grassy and elevated surfaces, as well as the pavement.

But we are looking for more snow to move into the region overnight Thursday night into early on Friday morning.

Friday

Expect the snow to overspread the region around or after midnight Friday morning and stick around through the Friday morning commute until around lunchtime.

With temperatures below the freezing mark, this will create a situation much like we’ve had the past few weeks, where we will be seeing snow-covered roads leading to travel troubles, heading into the Friday morning, commute to work in school, with most places the last day before the holiday vacation starts.

Before it’s all said and done by Friday lunchtime into early afternoon, we are looking at a widespread one to three inches of snow, and some places north of I-69 could see higher amounts where snow bands set up longer.

Friday afternoon into Friday evening, with this clipper system moving off to the east, we will change this into another Lake effect snow event.

A northwesterly flow will kick in, and we will see the chance for a few snow showers.

Weekend forecast

Overnight loads from Friday night to Saturday morning will drop well into the teens, which means any snow that does fall will be sticking around through the weekend as well.

The high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will only make it into the middle 20s before we start to warm things up, looking ahead into early next week.
