Emmanuel Macron’s tribute to Gisèle Pelicot, a “scout” for women

Emmanuel Macron said Friday December 20 «merci» on X to Gisèle Pelicot, “for women, who forever have a scout to speak and fight”the day after the end of the Mazan rape trial.

“Thank you Gisèle Pelicot. For this word of justice in the name of which you faced the ordeal with your head held high”said the president on the social network. “For all of us, because your dignity and your courage have moved and inspired France and the world.”

Admiration unanime

The unanimous political class had already welcomed Thursday the «courage» of Gisèle Pelicot after the conviction of her ex-husband to the maximum sentence of 20 years of criminal imprisonment in the Mazan trial. She has become a true feminist icon since her decision to refuse to go behind closed doors at the opening of this extraordinary trial.

In addition to Dominique Pelicot, the Vaucluse criminal court declared all 50 of his co-defendants guilty, closing four months of a trial that became a symbol of violence against women.

The main convict was on trial for having doused his wife with anxiolytics for a decade, to make her his sexual object and deliver her to dozens of men recruited on the internet.
