The competition phase in the Conference League is over: Chelsea steamrolls over everything and everyone, Betis and Copenhagen together with AA Gent to the play-offs

The most famous name in this Conference League is by far Chelsea. The Londoners won all their five previous matches and were presented with a new bite-sized chunk with the Irish Shamrock Rovers. 18-year-old Marc Guiu led ‘The Blues’ and scored a hat-trick in what would ultimately be a 5-1 win for Chelsea. With 18 out of 18, it logically ends the competition phase in first place.

Portugal’s Vitoria SC and Italy’s Fiorentina complete the top three, after a 1-1 draw. The Austrian Rapid Vienna, the Swedish Djurgardens, the Swiss Lugano, the Polish Legia Warschau and therefore Cercle Brugge advance directly to the eighth finals of the Conference League.

After an embarrassment in Northern Ireland, AA Gent, seventeenth, was sentenced to an extra play-off round on February 13 and 20. Jagiellonia, Shamrock Rovers, APOEL Nicosia, Pafos, Panathinaikos, Olimpija Ljubljana, Real Betis, Heidenheim, Copenhagen, Vikingur, Borac, Celje, Omonia, Molde and TSC have also suffered the same fate.

The European season is irrevocably over for Hearts, Basaksehir, Mlada, Astana, St. Gallen, HJK Helsinki, Noah, The New Saints, Dinampo Minsk, Larne, LASK and Petroclub.

Heidenheim or Betis for Ghent

The draw for the interim round of the Conference League will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday afternoon. Numbers 9 to 24 go into the draw for the play-off round. AA Gent will be drawn seventeenth against number 16 Heidenheim or number 15 Real Betis. In any case, with a German and a Spanish first division team, it will be a tough one for the Buffaloes. The intermediate round will be completed on February 13 and 20, 2025. If they qualify, Chelsea or Vitoria SC will be waiting in the round of 16.

Cercle gets a feasible card on paper in the last sixteen with Jagiellonia, Shamrock Rovers, Molde or TSC Backa Topola. The eighth finals, for which the draw will take place on February 21, are scheduled for March 6 and 13, 2025.
