“Letexier should have issued a red card”, says Landreau, advisor to the referees, after Donnarumma’s injury

As a sports advisor and spokesperson for Ligue 1 referees, Mickaël Landreau bluntly contested, on the channels of Canal+, this Thursday, the non-sanction decided by François Letexier on the sole inflicted by Singo on Donnaruma’s face during the match Monaco-PSG (2-4).

A first official statement. “Could Singo put his foot other than on Donnarumma’s face?” For Mickaël Landreau and the Technical Refereeing Department (DTA), the answer is obvious that yes. A sanction should therefore have been imposed.

Accustomed to firmly defending refereeing decisions on Ligue 1 pitches, as spokesperson for the championship referees (a position he has held since July 2024), the former Parisian goalkeeper did not validate, on the Canal+ set, this Thursday, the choice of François Letexier, referee of the Monaco-PSG meeting (2-4).

On the sole of Wilfried Singo, who scarred the face of Gianluigi Donnarumma, “Letexier should have issued a red card. The position of the Technical Refereeing Department is clear”, testified the former goalkeeper who regularly intervenes in supervising referees as a technical and tactical advisor.

If Mickaël Landreau admits that “his feelings as a player and goalkeeper” influence his analysis of the action, the unanimous support of the DTA supports an observation shared by many observers of French football.

If Donnarumma’s face was finally stitched up after the emergency installation of staples, the images of his large scar but above all the lack of explanation on the official’s decision notably made Jérome Rothen, this Thursday, on the airwaves of RMC: “We tried to contact the person in charge of the referees, the people of the FFT, all those who defend arbitration… They don’t want to explain…”.
