The results of the second round of the Groen chairmanship elections are in. The party announced on social media that Bart Dhondt is the new chairman. The duo Bart Dhondt and Natacha Waldmann won with 59.1% of the votes cast. Bright Adiyia and Tina Schuermans achieved 37.2%. Bart Dhondt will become chairman of Groen for the next five years, Natacha Waldmann will become vice-chairman. Dhondt: “I am very honored with the mandate of our members. Never before have so many members been involved in our chairmanship elections. I would also like to thank Bright, Tina, Celia and Steve for an intense chairmanship race. Now we are closing ranks and going all out for a proud, growing green party.”
Dhondt announces a spring offensive in which the party will open doors and windows. “We’ll get straight into it. Where we govern, we make life better. We want to get out of the defensive and fully advance our green solutions. This spring we will launch a major project in which we involve members, sympathizers, voters and partners from civil society. We will think together about how we can once again convince a large share of voters in cities such as Brussels and Ghent. That is what we are going for.”
The new Green chairman immediately focuses on centre-right policy. “Green is the logical progressive alternative to the distrustful policies of the center right. Education, welfare, fair taxation, climate policy: the center right offers insufficient answers to the most important challenges of the moment. Green does have those solutions, and we want to show that.”
