Nicolas Bazzucchi, 29, is indicted for rape and domestic violence, indicates his lawyer to Bleu Provence. The mayor of La Penne-sur-Huveaune was placed in pre-trial detention on the evening of Wednesday, December 18 following his police custody.

He was arrested early Monday, December 16 at his home, after a four-month investigation by the Territorial Crime Division. He is suspected of rape and violence against several of these former partners, over a period from January 1, 2023 to July 21, 2024.

Sexual images

In a press release published this Thursday morning, the prosecutor’s office revealed that it had collected the testimonies of three alleged victimsformer companions. The mayor has “denied the facts of rape and aggravated violence, however admitting certain behaviors likely to be criminal.”

Nicolas Bazzuchi is indicted for rape and “habitual violence (…) leading to an ITT of 20 days” concerning two former partners and violence without ITT (total incapacity for work) to the detriment of a partner.

He is also indicted for “fixation, recording of images of a sexual nature of a person in a private place without their consent committed by the spouse or ex-spouse”.

The mayor denies rapes but acknowledges violence

“He is dejected by the incrimination of rape, which is shameful and which he absolutely denies,” asks Me Jérôme Gay, his lawyer, who explains to France Bleu Provence that there is two plaintiffstwo of his client’s former acquaintances. “These are toxic relationships. There was mutual violence. He also committed violence that he partly admitted to”specifying that it is not necessarily a question of blows given, but of“insults”of “cris”of “spit”without further details.

“But that does not justify placement in pre-trial detention. There is an investigation which must lead to the manifestation of the truth. The obligations of judicial control are sufficient. Detention has no place in this case”, he adds, deploring a “overreaction” parquet in this folder.

Me Gay also specifies thathe will appeal this detention for his client from this Thursday morning for an upcoming release. “I must regularize an appeal with a request for immediate examination by the investigating chamber, so that at the beginning of the week his situation can be re-examined,” he indicates.

The lawyer adds that the mayor excludes resigning from his mandate.
