This Thursday evening, Roussillon and a large part of the Mediterranean coast are preparing to face violent gusts of wind. Corsica has been placed on orange alert by Météo-France. Gusts of up to 120 km/h are expected in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The storm, named Dionisio, is expected to sweep the south of the country with violent winds and heavy rainfall. According to the Weather Channel, “possible gusts around 100 km/h on the coast and nearly 110 to 120 km/h on the Canigou terrain” are expected.
The wind should also blow strongly in the Aude department. The department was placed on “yellow” vigilance from 4 p.m. and until 11 p.m., indicates the prefecture in a press release published on the social networkGusts could reach up to 110 km/locally on the Corbières reliefs“, specify the State services which call for caution.
Corsica, for its part, is placed on orange alert for strong winds of up to 150 km/h, particularly on Cap Corse and in the Corsican Mountains. “Unusual weather conditions with westerly winds strengthening significantly in the second part of the night from Thursday to Friday” are mentioned by Météo-France in its bulletin on Thursday morning. This winter storm could cause significant waves and falling trees on the island.
The maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean has at the same time launched a message of caution to users along the entire Mediterranean coast: postpone sea trips, check the mooring of boats and exercise caution on the coast, even if the winds are clear. the sky and let a clear sun shine.
On Friday, the storm will continue to sweep across the Mediterranean region. In the south of the Rhône valley, gusts of more than 110 km/h are expected, particularly around Marseille and Nice, while Corsica will experience peaks of 150 km/h on Cap Corse and 130 to 140 km /h on the Corsican Mountains. This situation should gradually ease overnight from Friday to Saturday, with winds falling to gusts of between 60 and 70 km/h.
