Madars Razma found a way past Christian Kist 3-1 at the PDC World Darts Championship in a moment where he prevailed as the victor despite all the fanfare surrounding the Dutchman’s heroics with a nine-dart finish.
Razma lauded the atmosphere and said himself that the Rashad Sweeting moment inspired him. But he also opened up on his own personal travails with a back injury that he also felt during his win over Kist and whether that would affect him going forward.
“Atmosphere is always crazy in the Ally Pally. That’s why every player not just me loves to play here and for example Rashad (Sweeting) yesterday against Jeffrey (de Graaf) he enjoyed the atmosphere, he enjoyed his game and I enjoyed as well. I watched the game and it’s really good. This is a big party actually. Of course we are fighting for big titles, money and ranking points but this is a big party and if we can enjoy this one then that’s amazing,” said Razma.
“I didn’t practice a lot this year as I was still building my family house but the last two weeks I practice a lot more than maybe ever. But at the same time, I felt my back injury and that’s the reason I feel a bit worried about it. I can’t control my practicing but I still believe in myself. If I don’t believe in myself, then who will believe in me?”
“It was two or three years ago. I played in Nordic and Baltic tour and I went to gym to be ready for ProTour. It was very hard, I practice less than normally. That was a signal to me to stop practicing as much. A couple of days ago I felt my back injury come back. I felt worried about it.”
“I have four days, I stay with my friends. It will be alright.”
“I wasn’t happy about European Tour qualifiers changing from 24 to 10. I didn’t believe myself in the first few months then I started to play better and better. That’s all about my thinking, that was mental game. I know I can beat anyone. My season was up and down but I’m happy to be here.”
