SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Just in time for the first day of winter this Saturday, our temperatures will fall into the 40s. But before the Saturday cold front, one will move past today. Todays cold front triggers a wind shift to the north. This will move in slightly cooler and drier air. Our daytime high temperatures today will top out closer to average, which is 75, but still slightly above the normal at 77 or 78 degrees. The chance for rain will come to an end with the drier air moves in.
The north flow of air will continue into tomorrow with temperatures dropping to the lower to mid 70s. Again, the drier air will prohibit rainfall and skies will be sunny. Winds may pick up a bit in the evening and overnight on Friday due to a second approaching cold front. This one will be more potent and drop nighttime temperatures into the mid 40s. Daytime high temperatures will top out in the mid 60s. This means most of the day will be spent in the 50s. So bundle up for the first day of winter, which is Saturday.
A look ahead to Christmas indicates that the forecast is currently low confidence. The major models have chanced with regard to a dry Christmas. Now, the front which was due after Christmas, looks to arrive on Christmas day. If this is true, we could see a few rain showers develop in the second half of Christmas day. It is to early to know and several more runs of the models are required before a higher confidence forecast can be made.
