WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – “Weather stops for nobody,” Ace Hardware Weston Store Manager Dave Huth says. “It can come no matter the time of the year it is.”
Winter — Is — Coming. With up to six inches of snow heading our way, now’s the time to be a step ahead.
“It’s good to be well prepared in advance,” Huth said. “Whether it be ice melt, snow shovel, snow throwers. Even repairs on your snow thrower, that type of thing ahead of time.”
“We got trucks loaded up, fueled up, plows hooked up,” Wausau Public Works Superintendent Dustin Kraege stated. “All that kind of stuff ready to go so that whenever we get called in, they can hit the ground running.”
Coming off a mild winter season, there’s been plenty of leftovers for this winter season.
“There seems to be an excess of inventory as far as shovels, ice melt, snow throwers, that type of thing,” Huth said. “So we’re going into this season with a lot more inventory than what we have in previous years.”
While making sure you have the right equipment is important, being safe should be your number one priority.
“We hate to have someone be injured because of a slip and fall, or something of that nature,” Huth said. “When you’re operating the equipment, or you’re out shoveling, you wanna make sure that you’re taking care of yourself first.”
“It’s gonna be our first big storm,” Kraege added. “So might be our first chance for some real slippery conditions. So leave early, drive slower, that kind of stuff.”
Huth recommends starting up your snow equipment before an actual storm hits. That way everything’s good to go when the snow actually arrives.
