Darts fan who landed £60k nine-darter windfall refused to believe ‘it was real’

Christian Kist’s nine-darter gave a lucky darts fan a birthday to remember by bagging him a £60,000 payday.

Train guards manager Chris from Sutton was gifted tickets to Ally Pally by his grandparents Stuart and Pauline to celebrate his 28th birthday last week.

And when Kist plundered double 12 for perfection, he was picked out as the fan to take home a third of Paddy Power’s £180,000 prize pool for a nine-darter.

Chris said: “I turned round to my grandad and said ‘seriously, is it me?’ I was like ‘oh my god’, this is mental. I just kept thinking ‘this can’t be real, it can’t be me’. Then everyone started looking at me – it took a while!

“Me and my grandad both looked at each other and said ‘what next? When is it getting announced?’ They kept not saying who, so we didn’t know when it would be announced. It’s just surreal.

“I have just told my girlfriend and she is blowing my phone up, so I better get on the phone to her!”

Chris returns to work today but insists the start time now “depends” on what time he gets home after celebrations with his grandad.

Kist, who was Luke Littler’s first victim at last year’s World Championship, himself takes home £60,000, which is scant consolation after bowing out in the 3-1 defeat by Latvia’s Madars Razma.

A further £60,000 will go to Prostate Cancer UK as part of Paddy Power’s Bigger 180 campaign.
