‘I’m going to knock him out,’ Fury promises ahead of Usyk rematch

Arriving Tuesday evening in Saudi Arabia, four days (this Saturday evening in Riyadh) from the planned rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury promised that this time he would knock out his opponent.

The time for revenge is approaching. Beaten last May by Oleksandr Usyk in a split decision, Tyson Fury will meet the Ukrainian on Saturday evening, again in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before the meeting, where three heavyweight belts will be at stake since Usyk abandoned his IBF title by forfeit, the “Gypsy King” spoke about the outcome of the fight.

“I’m going to knock him out, as promised,” said Tyson Fury, confident about his chances of getting revenge. The Briton has rewatched the images of his first fight against Usyk a “hundred times”. “I have to be more focused this time and not put myself forward too much,” continued Fury, who wants to do less in terms of show next to the fight. “It was so easy for me and you can get complacent.”

“It’s in God’s hands. But I think I’ll win again,” simply replied Oleksandr Usyk, still undefeated among professionals, with 22 successes in as many fights. On Tuesday evening, the two men arrived in Riyadh via private jets, which gave rise to an amusing scene where Usyk watched his opponent’s plane get off the plane through the cockpit window.

Big sacrifices made by Fury

Last May, Oleksandr Usyk became undisputed heavyweight champion, a first in boxing’s premier category since 1999. To become the number one heavyweight again, Tyson Fury had to make many sacrifices. “It was a long training camp,” he told DAZN. “I have been separated from my wife and my children for three months, I have not spoken to (his wife’s first name, Editor’s note) at all for three months, not a word. Yes, I have sacrificed a lot. It will be worth it, 100%.”

Furthermore, this rematch between Fury and Usyk will be marked by a unique experience: a fourth judge, aided by artificial intelligence, will give a verdict even if it “will not have an impact on the result”. “It’s a revolution,” said one of the Saudi promoters.
