Condition of the injured in the cave is stable
On Saturday, the 32-year-old researcher was in the cave with several companions to explore the previously unknown part. While descending into a narrow tunnel, she lost her footing and slipped into the depths. According to the emergency services, she suffered several broken bones and facial injuries. However, her condition is currently stable, according to rescuers.
The operation was made more difficult by the fact that the woman had to be transported on a stretcher through the narrow corridors. The rescuers had to take a break every hour and a half to provide the woman with medical care, according to a statement.
The woman had already been trapped in the same cave in July 2023. At that time she was rescued after two days. The doctor involved in the current rescue, Rino Bregani, told the Ansa news agency: “She speaks very little, but she says she will never go into a cave again.”
