The ABC of VRT with the V of… Connection: How we fight together against loneliness

How does VRT decide which themes to cover? Well, the themes are carefully determined based on research, feedback from sounding board groups, young people, current events, … VRT looks for a theme that appeals to everyone, can have an activating effect and can mobilize people to do something. “With the theme of ‘loneliness’ we noticed from the beginning that it was very popular among the Flemish. At the same time, we make it even more relevant by tailoring our offer and content to all our brands. Our ambassadors each have a personal story to tell about the theme. Fransisco Schuster: “I have sometimes felt lonely in my life due to the lack of representation in our society and because of my origins,” says Francisco Schuster. “It is super important for me to create a community through which you can connect people with each other. “

“As soon as a theme has been chosen, we delve deeper into the subject by, among other things, talking to experts and organizing inspiration sessions for our editors. For example, on the theme of loneliness, we spoke extensively with Dirk De Wachter. With his knowledge and expertise, we refined the theme, drew up a suitable manifesto and tailored our content accordingly,” says Simon.

“VRT is an expert in media and content. When it comes to themes for The Warmest Week, we like to be inspired by experts on the theme. This way we present the theme as accurately as possible.”
