Water and food distributions began in the Mayotte archipelago on Wednesday December 18, four days after the passage of Cyclone Chido. Rationing is being considered.

The first supplies arrived in Mayotte (Overseas), brought by soldiers for food distributions on the archipelago. Cans of food and water packs are stored in a gymnasium, Wednesday December 18. They will surely have to be rationed.

“I’m very worried, because as you see, we have a few bottles of water, some cans of sardines, a few cans of tuna”testifies Salama Ramia, senator from Mayotte. “We don’t know who we are going to give to and who we are not going to give to”she worries, believing that “It’s really insufficient at a stage where some people really have nothing”. Water, still in short supply in Mayotte, is sold more and more expensively in certain street stalls, sometimes up to 18 euros per pack.
