William Lebghil shines in an inventive romantic comedy where the impulses of art collide with the challenges of love. More lunar than hilarious, the 34-year-old actor stings the heart in the bittersweet The Beautiful Role. He portrays a theater actor who leaves everything – show and girlfriend (Vimala Pons) – for a leading role in a film.
Vimala Pons lends her features to Nora, a theater director, and William Lebghil plays Henri, her fellow actor. Their love then falters when Henri leaves their show in the middle of creation to work in cinema. The two love each other, get confused, and work poorly under pressure. Victor Rodenbach, who is making his first film here, sums it up well: “Their love is like a scene. It’s assembled, it’s disassembled. »
Crazy charm
This autobiographical romantic comedy, surprising and skillfully written, is not yet another candy. She asks adult questions. How to preserve love in the face of personal ambitions? Between art and couples, she also questions marital jealousy: how to love when you steal the spotlight?
A few lengths? Yes, the film runs out of steam slightly at its heart, marked by a more hollow passage, but its crazy charm makes us forget its soft underbelly, and the magic constantly resurfaces thanks to the grace of its well-matched duo: Vimala Pons and William Lebghil. Their performances oscillate between fantasy and burlesque, merging into an irresistible cinematic alchemy. We love them deeply together, complicit and vibrant, in their agreements and disagreements.
The beautiful role by Victor Rodenbach, in theaters from this Wednesday, December 18. Duration: 1 hour 24 minutes.
