No second Houdini act for Freyr Alexandersson at Kortrijk. Last season, the Icelander helped the West Flemish club to escape relegation after a strong catch-up race, but now the club has decided to say goodbye to its trainer. “It was a difficult decision,” said Kortrijk.
KV Kortrijk has ended its collaboration with its Icelandic coach Freyr Alexandersson, the club confirmed on Tuesday evening. Assistant Jonathan Hartmann also has to leave.
Dhe 42-year-old Alexandersson had been working for the Kerels since January. No successor has yet been appointed.
After eighteen matchdays, Kortrijk is in fourteenth place in the Jupiler Pro League with 17 points. It leaves only Cercle Brugge (17 points) and red lantern Beerschot (11 points) behind.
The 0-3 loss last Saturday against Dender was the last match under Alexandersson’s charge.
“This is a difficult decision for the club. We would like to thank Freyr & Jonathan for their top professionalism, hard work and engaging personality,” emphasizes CEO Sports Pieter Eecloo.
