With an Instagram post in September of this year that featured a hole-in-the-wall Image of Mary and Jesus from an art catalog showed, the GLP politician Sanija Ameti caused outrage. Even though she quickly deleted the post and apologized, the shitstorm continued for days. Ameti lost her job and went into hiding.
As has now become known, the Zurich public prosecutor’s office opened criminal proceedings against the 32-year-old at the end of October – for disturbing freedom of belief and worship. Spokesman Erich Wenzinger confirmed this to CH Media. Violations of the “blasphemy article” are punished with a fine; However, the presumption of innocence applies until the proceedings are legally concluded.
Ameti plans to resume her duties as a GLP councilor on Wednesday, December 18th. This was first reported by “SonntagsBlick”, and an informed source confirmed Ameti’s intentions to this editorial team.
It took three months before she spoke up again for the first time in an interview with the CH Media newspapers and talked about the fateful evening, the force of the shitstorm and her political future. Ameti described in detail the events of that fateful evening. She was overworked and overtired. Sport shooting helps her in such situations. «So I went into the basement. There was a stack of old paper in front of the door, with the catalog from the Koller auction house on top. I tore out a page and stuck it on the wall without thinking about it.”
