Giannis Antetokounmpo MVP of the NBA Cup, symbol of a huge start to the season

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best players on this planet and he wanted to prove it during this NBA Cup final with an XXL performance at 26 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists. A mutant performance which perfectly transcribes the start of the crazy season that the Greek Freak.

Giannis and the matches to win a coronation, it’s a long love story. Remember the mixtape he dropped on the Suns in 2021 to win their first NBA championship title.

The Greek Freak did it again last night to win the NBA Cup.

If we are far from the 50 points of 3 and a half years ago – just as the NBA Cup is far from an NBA title – the Greek’s performance remains colossal.

Giannis started the game wanting to explode the Thunder defense. It must be said that the animal has it under the hood and once it has decided to pass the shoulder, it is difficult to stop it and it is not for lack of trying.

Despite a good start to the match from Doc Rivers’ gang, the Thunder remained in contact despite an incredible clumsiness from afar.

That was before Mr. Giannis Antetokounmpo decided to show who’s boss.

In the third quarter, the Greek switches to a completely different dimension, what some will call a “zone”. Call it what you want, the final conclusion is the same: the Greek Freak was untouchable.

On offense, no OKC player manages to contain him and on defense, he terrorizes all his opponents with his simple presence. Alex Caruso tried to confront the colossus from Athens head-on and took a slap which sent his ball back to Mount Olympus.

At the end of this masterclass of destruction that would make Thanos jealous, Giannis is at 26 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists with one quarter left to play.

Do you think he’s going to stop there? Certainly not.

Despite the gap reaching the 20-point mark, the MVP candidate is not slowing down. It continues to be unplayable. If he only scored 3 points in this last act, in defense, the Greek continued to terrorize the young shoots of Mark Daigneault and added two counterattacks to his counter to finish the match with three pancakes on the skull of OKC.

At the final buzzer, Giannis Antetokounmpo finished the game with 29 points (10/19 shooting), 19 rebounds, 10 assists, the NBA Cup in his pocket and the MVP trophy of the competition as well.

An XXL performance which coincides with an equally impressive start to the season. After an ultra-sluggish start from the Bucks, not to say ultra-troublesome, the Greek got going and since then the Daims have been rolling towards the East.

Giannis averages 32.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6 assists. XXL standards which could well allow the Greek to win his third MVP title if the Bucks continue their crazy rise in the standings.

While there was a tendency to bury Milwaukee a little too quickly, the Bucks and especially Giannis prove night after night that you should not sell the skin of the deer before having killed it. Doc Rivers’ men have ambitions that extend until June.

For those who don’t have it: the Bucks want to play for the title.

Giannis also reminded us of this after his team’s coronation: the job is not finished and they will remain focused.

Giannis, with the NBA Cup and the MVP trophy under his arm:

“We will stay focused, because the work is not finished. »

The NBA Cup is not an end goal, but only a step towards even greater prospects.

Be careful not to reproduce the pattern of last year’s Lakers who gradually died out after their coronation in the NBA version of the League Cup, but with a Lillard still in search of a first title and a Giannis who wishes to assert its place among the legends of the Great League, we have very few concerns.
