Inzaghi’s outburst after Lazio-Inter: who was the Nerazzurri coach angry with?

December 17 – 3.58pm – MILANO

As often happens after matches, Simone Inzaghi first smiled, gloated, analysed, gave “compliments to extraordinary guys”. Then, however, yesterday he found space to launch a thrust. And also very heavy: “Since the derby lost, many people couldn’t wait for us to stumble and unfortunately it happened in Leverkusen. A lot has been said, but like their coach, fortunately the players listen little and pedal…”. The clear 6-0 with which he eliminated his former Lazio gave Inzaghi the opportunity to get rid of some stones: after the disappointing away match at Bayarena (lost 1-0 in the final minutes creating little to nothing in the attacking phase), the Nerazzurri coach responded to criticism and controversy in recent days. But exactly, did he answer to whom?

criticisms

We were saying, everything started after the Leverkusen test: Inter – from the second lines, and this must be underlined – appeared different in Germany compared to the cannibalistic team that in Serie A beats most of its opponents. Few ideas, few ideas, little play. And zero shots towards the opponent’s goal. A largely unprecedented event, which had practically not happened to Inzaghi’s team for 3 years (Inter-Liverpool). In two words: bad evening. But up until then the Nerazzurri’s progress had been perfect in the Champions League and almost perfect in Serie A, with the team coming off 11 wins and 1 draw. This is why the criticism that came after the challenge against Xabi Alonso annoyed Inzaghi. It was said that Inter had gone to Germany to snatch a 0-0 draw (an interpretation that infuriated Simone), that the formation choices were wrong, that they had resorted to excessive turnover. Theses that the coach dismantled one by one: regarding the turnover, Inzaghi in the Champions League had always used the same men who projected Inter into the G8 of European football; Inter hadn’t lost a match for 3 months and in Leverkusen they missed half of them (not even all of them, because the first half had gone rather smoothly except for a shiver at the start); it was the perfect opportunity to not overly squeeze those in the championship who can’t stop. In short, the 6-0 against Lazio once again proved Inzaghi right, but with his jab he wasn’t just aiming for some lounge commentary…

conte & co.

“Inter has two teams and three quarters”, “Marotta can say what he wants but I don’t think he would be happy if he didn’t win the scudetto”, “Inter? They have the strongest team in the championship”. Provocations, attacks, affronts. These are just some of the “owls” that came mostly from Naples, mostly from the mouth of the Italian coach Antonio Conte (but also from president De Laurentiis). An attempt to add further pressure to Inter’s season, to which Inzaghi never responded directly. But yesterday’s words, in some way, also seem to go in the direction of Naples…
