Christmas bonus: a much-appreciated boost for 2.3 million French people

The first payments of the Christmas bonus took place on Tuesday December 17. It is aimed at beneficiaries of minimum social benefits, i.e. just over 2.3 million French people, and its minimum amount is 152.45 euros for a single person.

Christmas shopping will be able to begin for Brigitte, 37, home help and mother of two children. She received 274 euros in Christmas bonus this Tuesday, December 17. “It’s welcome for children, for gifts”she assures. The amount of the premium varies depending on the composition of the household: 152.45 euros for a single person, 320.15 euros for a couple with two children.

This boost comes a little late according to another mother, who received 228 euros. “It would have been a little better a little earlier, but it’s good because there are lots of costs at this time“, confides Mélina Aatar. Established in 1998, the Christmas bonus is paid automatically to beneficiaries of certain social minimums, such as the RSA. 7% of French households are concerned.

Payments will be spread out until January 2025, and are not taxable.
