AS Monaco is sizzling and with an 11-5 record remains on track to get on the top of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings.
The Roca Team got the big 93-74 win over Bayern Munich which dropped to 10-6 without being able to put up a fight in the second half.
Giorgos Papagiannis with 14 points was the leader of a balanced offensive effort, Mike James added 13 points and four assists, while Matthew Strazel and Jordan Loyd (photo) had 11 points each.
“We did a great job on defense”said Papagiannis adding “we feel, we pass great, we play aggressively on both ends and we want to keep this momentum”.
However, Terry Tarpey stole the show with eight points, five assists, and three steals.
Carsen Edwards with 17 points couldn’t be a factor in the second half and Johannes Voightmann added 13 points.
Monaco dominated the second half
In a balanced first half, Bayern closed the first ten minutes of action with a 24-18 lead and extended their cushion to 11 points (29-18) after Voightmann’s three at the start of the second period.
However, the tables were turned with a 26-7 run, which made the score 44-36 for Monaco as Giorgos Papagiannis scored 12 points for the hosts. The halftime score was 46-40 for the home team, which turned it on defense and changed the game’s momentum.
Bayern made it again a one-point game with Edwards scoring for the last time in the game (52-51) but with James making a three and Terry Tarpey reacting with four points Monaco was up by eight again (59-51).
At the end of the third period, the hosts extended the lead to 17 (77-60) and controlled the game until the final buzzer. Monaco led even by 24 (92-68), and Bayern couldn’t react.
