La Palma: what is this Norwegian series that is a hit on Netflix?

In the space of a few days, The Palm has seduced more than one! Ranked in first place in the Netflix rankings since its arrival on the streaming platform, this mini-series created by Martin Sundland, Lars Gudmestad and Harald Rosenløw-Eeg recounts the difficult daily life of a Norwegian family passing through the Canary Islands for holidays. But now, having barely arrived in this idyllic environment, the members of this family witness, helplessly, an impressive volcanic eruption. From then on, they must do everything they can to stay alive, braving lava and toxic ashes, and doing everything to find a place to find safety. Because a tsunami, the biggest the world has ever seen, is going to hit them.

The Palm : a series that appeals to many

If it has already attracted a large number of users, this Norwegian series is likely to attract many more in the coming weeks. For good reason, having only four episodes to its credit, lasting around 45 minutes per episode, it is not time-consuming, which may please some. Furthermore, if the end-of-year holidays are mentioned in this production, this series is also likely to please fans of thrills and twists of all kinds – given the dangerous climate in which the characters are immersed. So many positive points that should strike a chord with even the most skeptical!

The Palm inspired by real events? This strange coincidence…

If the weather conditions present in this series seem fantastic – even impossible – they nevertheless actually took place. Indeed, on September 19, 2021, the Cumbre Vieja volcano (renamed Tajogaite in July 2022), erupted on the island of La Palma, causing significant rushes of lava and numerous clouds of ash. As a result, when this series was unveiled, several Spanish citizens did not particularly appreciate that this natural disaster was mentioned in a series. A small controversy which was quickly swept away since the series had been ordered by the creators well before this eruption.
