On Monday December 16, 2024, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck the Côte d'Azur, with an epicenter located at sea, approximately 30 kilometers from Monaco. According to Var Actu, the earthquake, which occurred around 10:20 p.m., was felt in the departments of Var and Alpes-Maritimes, as well as in Italy, in Sanremo.
An epicenter 2 kilometers deep
The epicenter, located just 2 kilometers deepcaused strong vibrations, particularly in cities like Nice, Antibes, and Draguignan, where residents reported sudden shakingvibrations in the apartments and objects that shook. Although the phenomenon worried residents, no injuries were reported and firefighters were not called upon for interventions.
Tremors all the way to Italy
The French Central Seismological Office (BCSF) launched a call for testimonies, already collecting more than 200 returns, and confirms that the tremor was also felt in Italy, near the border.
