As part of the 4×100 meter medley relay, Maxime Grousset achieved the fastest 100m freestyle in history but did not become the new record holder in the discipline.
Member of the 4x100m medley relay, a race which closed the short course swimming worlds in Budapest on Sunday, Maxime Grousset achieved an exceptional performance during his race. The New Caledonian swimmer completed his 100m freestyle in 44 seconds and 51 hundredths, 2 hundredths better than world champion Jack Alexy. This is in theory the best 100m freestyle for a short course swimmer. But this time will not allow him to take the world record in the discipline. Because in a relay only the first swimmer can request approval of his time because he is the only one to start under the same conditions as a swimmer doing an individual race. Despite his great time, the Blues finished 7th in the race.
