The Pic du Midi on its way to Unesco
#HERITAGE Since its inclusion on the French State’s indicative list in October 2022, the candidacy of the Pic du Midi and its observatory has entered its support phase by the French World Heritage Committee (CFPM). The 2nd hearing, which took place on October 15, 2024, received notice “very favorable”. The 3rd hearing has already been scheduled for April 10, 2025. The team of the Public Interest Group (GIP) submitting the application was able to highlight the rich landscape, articulated around the Pic du Midi and which is remarkably preserved. These are all territorial and landscape attributes constituting the exceptional universal value of the nomination. The strength of the application also rests on the observatory and its scientific activity, guaranteed by the Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier University. This third hearing in spring 2025 will be decisive in leading to the final stage: the official submission to UNESCO in September 2025.
The doubling of the RD600 on borrowed time
#SEVEN – The major works project on the RD600, a strategic and often congested axis which connects the port of Sète-Frontignan to the A9, has just suffered a major slowdown following the announcement of departmental budget restrictions. The project, announced in 2018 by the Department of Hérault, should see the creation of two lanes over 7.5 km, but also the construction of ten structures and ten rainwater harvesting basins. The cost would be around 60 million euros. The launch, which has already fallen behind a huge delay, has just been suspended by the departmental council, as confirmed by Philippe Vidal, deputy vice-president for regional planning.
