The captain of the South African national team, Ronwen Williams, has been crowned the best goalkeeper on the continent after being voted the number one in the Goalkeeper of the Year category at the 2024 CAF Awards.

Williams, 32, played a crucial role in South Africa’s podium finish at the TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, and he has been duly recognized for his outstanding performances both for his club and his country.

His magnificent saves during the Ivory Coast 2023 tournament and his rich vein of form at the club level also led to his nomination for the Ballon d’Or earlier this year, marking a historic milestone for African football as he made the shortlist while playing for an African club.

The Bafana Bafana captain has been instrumental in the recent consecutive titles of Mamelodi Sundowns since joining the club, a feat that elevated his status on the national team to become the number one goalkeeper.
