Blacksmith and early activist within the Yellow Vests, Christophe Chalençon died on Monday, December 16, from cancer. He was 58 years old, reports Le Figaro.

Blacksmith in and historical activist of the Yellow Vest movement, Christophe Chalençon was both recognized in his department but also at the national level. The latter died of cancer at the age of 58, reported Bleu Vaucluse. He was one of the rare representatives of the movement to have been invited to Matignon to discuss with Édouard Philippe.

The latter had also launched a citizens' list, in the wake of the historic demonstrations of 2018. This list for the European elections, called “Citizen evolution”had achieved a score of 0.01%. The leader of the movement in Vaucluse received a visit from the then Italian minister Luigi Di Maio in February 2019.

“We have paramilitaries who are ready”

According to Europe 1, Italian television had also immortalized this moment by unwittingly recording Christophe Chalençon speaking to the Italian minister. “I will follow through on my convictions”testifies the Yellow Vest. He then continues: “Because if they put a bullet in my head, Macron will go to the guillotine, […] we have paramilitaries who are ready to intervene.”

Following the broadcast of these extracts, many representatives of the movement had distanced themselves from the figure of Christophe Chalençon and had set up their own party, the MAC for Alternative Citizen Movement.
