The draw for the group stage of Women's Euro 2025, which will be held in Switzerland from July 2 to 27, revealed a difficult journey for the France team.
The ceremony, hosted by Ian Wright and Annette Fetscherin, brought together many emblematic football figures, such as Leonardo Bonucci, Verónica Boquete, Sami Khedira and Jill Scott. The teams were allocated to the four groups after a careful procedure, with hosts Switzerland automatically placed in Group A in position 1. The 2025 edition will mark a major step forward in the recognition of women's football, with a full allocation of 41 million euros, more than double the previous edition. Each participating team will receive at least 1.8 million euros, and the victorious selection can expect up to 5.1 million euros.
The complete draw:
Group A : Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Finland
Group B : Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal
Group C : Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland
Group D : France, England, Netherlands, Wales
Placed in Group D, the Blues will face England, the Netherlands and Wales, in a competition where the greatest European nations will compete to succeed the English, the reigning champions. France's first match will be a shock against England. This meeting promises to be intense, pitting the title holders against Laurent Bonadei's players. England, a formidable team, was undoubtedly the opponent to avoid in Pot 2.
The task has become even more complicated with the arrival of the Netherlands, winners of Euro 2017, in this group D. Their experience and their talent make this team a serious threat for the Blue. To complete this tough group, the draw awarded Wales, a team in full progress. The competition will span almost a month, starting with the group stages (July 2-13), followed by the quarter-finals (July 16-19), semi-finals (July 22-23) and culminating with the final on July 27 in Zurich.
With formidable opponents like England and the Netherlands in their group, Les Bleues will have to show their best level to hope to go far in this Euro. Anticipation is immense for this edition, which promises to be a major event in European football. All eyes are now on Switzerland, where the kick-off will be given in less than seven months.
