Ligue 1: Doué, Cherki, Beraldo… PSG's tops/flops

Mathieu Warnier, Media365: published on Sunday December 15, 2024 at 11:40 p.m.

Discover our tops and our flops following Saint-Germain's victory against (3-1) this Sunday on the lawn of the Parc des Princes on the occasion of the closing poster of the 15th day of League 1.

The tops

Gifted untenable

Désiré Doué knew how to seize his chance. Starting in place of Bradley Barcola on the left flank of the Parisian attack, the former Rennais put the Lyon rearguard in great difficulty from the first moments of the match. If PSG was able to lead by two goals after a quarter of an hour of play and then go for a convincing victory against OL, it was thanks to a decisive pass for Ousmane Dembélé and his involvement in the action leading to the penalty transformed by Vitinha. He could have scored his goal at the start of the second half without a prior offside position. He will remain the strong man of the capital club in this match.

Cherki, the threat

In a Lyon team stunned and disoriented during the first half hour of this meeting, Rayan Cherki knew how to do what was necessary to restart the machine. Decisive on the action allowing Georges Mikautadze to give hope to the Gones while cooling the Parc des Princes, the Lyon winger was in many good shots before giving up his place, visibly against his will, to Saïd Benrahma for the 25 final minutes of the meeting, whose contribution was much less notable.

Zaire-Emery found

Warren Zaire-Emery is once again the player who caught the eye of many people last season. As comfortable in the defensive phase as in the offensive phase, the Parisian midfielder seemed to multiply throughout 90 very solid minutes on his part. Strong in duels and successful in dribbling, he was able to create gaps in the Lyon team, which were not always exploited properly by his teammates. Nevertheless, the French international confirms that he is on an upward slope in a team which has regained color after complicated weeks.

The flops

Maitland-Niles overtaken

Facing the Désiré Doué moped, Ainsley Maitland-Niles quickly demonstrated his limits. The English right-back has rarely been able to compete with the Parisian winger, hence too many lost duels and difficulties not to break under pressure, synonymous with losing the ball. The former Arsenal player tried to tighten the game after a very delicate first 20 minutes but without really managing to get things back on track.

Beraldo trop candide

Fortunately for PSG, Willian Pacho responded. In a revamped central defense and without Marquinhos, Lucas Beraldo once again proved too inconsistent, even dangerous for his team when the Lyonnais began to wake up. The Brazilian defender confirmed that he was too limited and it was without much surprise that Luis Enrique replaced him with Marquinhos shortly after the hour mark, in order to provide more support to his defensive sector.

Tolisso suffered

Alongside a less than imperial Nemanja Matic and a Jordan Veretout who did not always show his good side, Corentin Tolisso tried to compensate with his vice but the result did not live up to expectations. Tossed around in the duels, the experienced Les Gones midfielder was unable to raise his voice to respond to the Parisian aggression, particularly in the first period. Despite this, he played the entire match, without having a great positive influence on his team.
