The council chamber in Antwerp decided on Monday that former football commentator Eddy Snelders will have to answer before the criminal court. He does not dispute the exhibitionism and voyeurism, but he does dispute the assaults and the possession of images of child sexual abuse.
The 65-year-old Snelders came into controversy at the end of last year after a neighbor filed a complaint against him for exhibitionism. She told the police that she had seen the man in his sixties openly pleasuring himself on several occasions and that she could provide evidence of this.
The police carried out a search at Snelders’ home and seized IT equipment. Numerous images were found that Snelders had secretly taken of several dozen women in the toilet and in the shower. He made the recordings with hidden cameras in his home in Brasschaat, his office, his chalet in the Ardennes and in the changing rooms of a public swimming pool.

Images of child abuse
The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office wants to bring him to court not only for exhibitionism and voyeurism, but also for possessing images of child sexual abuse and for assaulting his neighbor, a cleaner and his then underage stepdaughter. Snelders strongly denies the assaults and the possession of such images and requests that these charges not be prosecuted.
The case came before the council chamber last week. The former football commentator was confronted with several of his (alleged) victims for the first time. For example, his ex-stepdaughter, his ex-wife Bé De Meyer and several other women who were secretly filmed by Snelders attended the hearing.
