In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3rd Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, an interesting exchange between Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja was caught on the stump mic during the final session of Day 2. The conversation revolved around strategizing to dismiss Travis Head, who was looking dangerous at the crease.
In the video, Rishabh Pant, speaking from behind the stumps, can be heard saying, “Body language banana padega, bhai yaar” (“We need to create some body language, brother”).
Jadeja responds, “Woh toh ekdum bahar se ho jayega” (“It will go way outside”). Kohli then intervenes, explaining, “Woh backfoot se maarta hai, toh Rohit ke haath mein chala jayegi, yaha se jaane do, edge bhi lag sakta hai, zor se daal, cut maar, haath mein jayegi” (“He plays from the backfoot , so it could go to Rohit's hands. Let it go from here, it might edge slightly, bowl faster so that it cuts and goes straight into the hands”).
Rishabh Pant, still vocal from behind the stumps, adds, “Aur kya, kuch toh banega, fielder bhi saare peeche hain” (“There’s a chance, something could happen, all the fielders are positioned behind”). The conversation reflects the team’s attempt to find the right approach to get Head out, especially given his aggressive and solid batting.
Travis Head and Steve Smith Dominate Day 2
After persistent rain on Day 1, Day 2 began with India making a strong comeback, taking three quick wickets in the opening session. However, Travis Head and Steve Smith fought back with scintillating centuries.
Head, in particular, played an aggressive knock of 152 runs, while Smith scored his 33rd Test century, ending a year-long drought. Despite India’s efforts, it was Jasprit Bumrah who stood out, claiming a crucial five-wicket haul. At stumps on Day 2, Australia were 405/7.
With the excitement building, all eyes will be on Day 3 as both teams continue to battle for dominance in this thrilling contest.
