Manchester United fans have waxed lyrical about a player who delivered a “monstrous” performance for Ruben Amorim’s men against Manchester City.
Ruben Amorim’s side stunned Manchester City at the Etihad and staged a dramatic 2-1 comeback win to secure all three Premier League points on Sunday evening.
Josko Gvardiol broke the deadlock in the first half and put City 1-0 up at half-time after firing past Manchester United No 1 Andre Onana with a header.
However, Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot-kick in the 88th minute to cancel out Josko Gvardiol’s opener and pulled United back into the contest.
Amorim’s men took the lead only two minutes after Bruno Fernandes scored his penalty, with Amad Diallo superbly beating City No 1 Ederson.
United are 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have won six of their 16 league matches in the 2024-25 campaign.
Amorim’s side are six points adrift from the Premier League top four and United still face an uphill battle in securing Champions League qualification for next season.

Man Utd star impressions for Amorim
Harry Maguire returned for Manchester United earlier this month after recovering from injury and he has secured regular first-team minutes under Ruben Amorim.
The 31-year-old former United captain has featured in four of Amorim’s first seven matches in charge of the Red Devils.
Maguire was an unused substitute in the 2-1 comeback win against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday before returning to the starting XI on Sunday.
The England defender was part of the three-man backline in Amorim’s system and Maguire saw out the full 90 minutes at the Etihad against City.
Despite United conceding in the first half in Sunday’s 2-1 win, Maguire impressed in the backline alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

Man Utd fans react to Maguire’s performance vs Man City
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, praised Harry Maguire for his strong showing in the Manchester derby.
Red Devils supporters labelled Maguire the “unsung hero” from the match and praised the United defender for ‘pocketing’ City striker Erling Haaland.
“Haaland would’ve scored a hat-trick without Harry Maguire. Unsung hero and Man of the Match for me,” one fan said.
Someone else added: “Maguire today was absolutely unbelievable. Literally kept Haaland quiet all game.”
A third posted: “The next time you talk about Maguire, remember how easily he pocketed Haaland in this away game. Maguire gets a lot of criticism, but never gets credit when it’s due.”
“One unsung hero in this match is Maguire… very solid all-round game,” another wrote.
While a fifth X user tweeted: “I completely forgot to credit Maguire. What a monstrous game he had. Completely nullified their attack.”
Another commented: “Lisandro [Martinez], [Kobbie] Mainoo and Maguire [were] unsung heroes [for their] fantastic performance, especially that second half.”
Somebody else said: “Maguire proves time and time again how effective he can be as a squad player when there’s no pressure. Glad to see him back in form — his pocketing of Haaland should be the talk of the town.”
And an eighth said: “Maguire really the unsung hero of that half — he’s been keeping Haaland quiet the whole game.”
