too clumsy, Barcelona collapses against Leganés

Barcelona, after an impressive start to the season with 11 victories in 12 La Liga matches, had a more difficult time with only one victory in their last five matches. Despite this, the Catalan team remained at the top of the standings, tied on points with Atlético, and with a slight advantage of one point over Real Madrid. The pressure was therefore starting to be felt on the Blaugrana team. Opposed to Leganés, back in La Liga after four years in the 2nd division, this Sunday, December 15 at the Montjuïc Olympic stadium, Hansi Flick’s men received clear instructions: win the match and get back on track.

But Barça quickly experienced disappointment. From a corner, Sergio González was found at the penalty spot. The player deflected the ball with his head and hit the net (4th, 0-1). Barcelona then tried to come back before the break, but without success. Raphinha, who had collected a good pass inside the area, struck and finally hit the crossbar (33rd). Robert Lewandowski then saw his attempt blocked by a defender (44th).

Barcelona lacked realism

Returning from the locker room, the Blaugrana continued to maintain the pressure on Leganés. Lamine Yamal executed a perfect cross with the outside of his foot for Lewandowski. The Pole headed the ball back but was offside (50th). On the hour mark, Raphinha entered the Leganense area and fell following the intervention of an opposing player. The referee did not award a penalty, despite the protest from Barcelona and the public (60th). Jules Koundé in turn missed a clear opportunity with a shot which did not go very far from the left post (79th).

A non-match for the Barcelonans who, despite their absolute domination (80% ball possession), never really knew how to get back into the match. With this poor result, Barça failed to move ahead in the standings. The club remains leader, but tied on points with Atlético de Madrid (38) and closely followed by Real Madrid with 37 points. For its part, Leganes is in 15th position in the standings.
