VfB Stuttgart’s offense is badly affected by injuries, but Sebastian Hoeneß’s team is not particularly lacking in goals.

Stuttgart – VfB Stuttgart is struggling with a lot of bad luck with injuries among its offensive forces this season. The national players Jamie Leweling and Deniz Undav have already missed the last four games in the Bundesliga, and it is unclear whether loan striker El Bilal Touré will even hunt for goals again for VfB.

However, the situation is not causing a major headache for the Swabians in the Bundesliga. With 26 goals after 13 match days, the team of successful coach Sebastian Hoeneß is doing well. In the Champions League they even managed a 5-1 explosion at BSC Young Boys. The highlight: The burden of scoring goals is currently spread very well at VfB.

Three sixes scored against VfB Stuttgart in the English week

In the league, eleven different goalscorers have scored the 26 goals this season, only Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg have one more goalscorer. Most recently, Atakan Karazor even entered the list and ended a curse in the 118th Bundesliga game of his career. “That is always an issue and the wish, especially when the remaining defense has been clarified, that you get to the box as a six in order to score goals from the backcourt,” said Hoeneß before the league game at 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday.

In addition to Karazor, Yannik Keitel and Angelo Stiller were also recently successful in the Champions League. “Of course that’s great. This should be spread out, which is important so that there are no dependencies. We are now going into the eighth or ninth game without Touré, without Undav and without Leweling. It didn’t affect the number of goals we scored. That speaks for the team,” explained Hoeneß.

VfB Stuttgart with feasible tasks before the winter break

In addition to the midfielders, Nick Woltemade has also recently stood out, who, with just 186 minutes of playing time in the league, is already the third best shooter after Undav and Ermedin Demirović. “The fact that others are now stepping into the breach is very good, also as a sense of achievement for the boys and hopefully as a booster so that they can go into the last two games with self-confidence,” said Hoeneß.

After the game against Heidenheim, which has lost six times in a row, VfB is at home against FC St. Pauli. With six points, Stuttgart would be in a good position with a view to the Champions League ranks at the winter break.
