Pachuca’s dramatic victory on penalties over Al Ahly

After the great match played in the Derby of the Americas where they beat Botafogo, the Pachuca team faced Al Ahly looking for a place in the grand final of the Intercontinental Cup.

From the first minutes the game became quite rough on both sides of the field, with a slight improvement in the Egyptian team that had better control of the ball, but with little clarity in the last zone.

As the minutes passed, the actions became more even, but the midfield of both teams looked solid, with Elías Montiel seeking to command the offensive transitions of the Tuzos.

Without movement on the scoreboard, for the complement the African champion had some important approaches, but the Mexican squad would be the closest with a leaked ball that Ángel Mena could not define.

Despite the attempts, the goal did not come, forcing the match to be sent to extra time where Al Ahly had the clearest opportunity at the feet of Khaled Abdelfattah, however, Carlos Moreno made a great bailout, avoiding the fall of his goal and taking everything to the penalty shootout.

In the penalty kicks, Guillermo Almada’s team suffered at the beginning when Salomón Rondón and Borja Bastón missed their shots, but the figure of the ‘Tank’ appeared once again, saving the third Egyptian penalty that led to the Mexican victory after Abdelfattah himself He sent his shot to the crossbar.

In this way, Pachuca won the second cup of this tournament, but also the pass to the grand final where they will face Real Madrid in search of the intercontinental grand prize.
