PSV wants to wash away the bitter aftertaste of this week’s European defeat with a victory over SC Heerenveen. Last season the away match ended in a monster victory: 0-8, the biggest away win of the season ever. It could also be a great match for Peter Bosz, if he wins he will break several Eredivisie records.
At the time, Guus Til and Malik Tillman laid the foundation for a monster victory with both two goals within half an hour. Later, Joey Veerman, Johan Bakayoko, Luuk de Jong and Patrick van Aanholt joined the scorers to complete the historic result. The evening could have been even more special, because if Feyenoord had dropped points in Deventer, PSV would have been national champions. That didn’t happen and so PSV had to wait another two weeks.
Thanks to a 2-0 victory in the Philips Stadium, the maximum six points were achieved from the meetings with SC Heerenveen last season for the first time since 2011-2012. Guus also scored in Eindhoven, as did Ricardo Pepi.
Goals
PSV broke its personal goals record in the match against FC Twente. In 2024, Peter Bosz’s team has scored 111 times so far. With two games to go, there is plenty of opportunity to further increase this number. The old record, 110 goals, dated from 1987. To get the Eredivisie record, a few more goals are needed. In 1995 Ajax scored 125 times.
Records for Bosz
After 49 Eredivisie matches, Peter Bosz is on the verge of a unique record at PSV. With 43 wins so far, he has equaled the record for most wins by a manager in his first 50 league matches at one club. That record was held by Stefán Kovács, who achieved the same number at Ajax in the 1970s. Bosz still has one more match to go to definitively break this record.
In terms of points, Bosz has already made history: with 133 points he surpassed the old record of Kovács’ Ajax (132 points, converted into three points per win). Moreover, under his leadership, PSV already scored 167 goals in 49 matches, a number that was only matched by Johan Cruijff’s Ajax in the 1980s.
