While the Indian Ocean archipelago was devastated this Saturday by Cyclone Chido, the Prime Minister, who is in the process of forming his government, is organizing the delivery of aid to the French department.

Prime Minister François Bayrou will participate on Saturday evening in an interministerial crisis meeting that he convened with the resigning Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau, on the situation in Mayotte devastated by tropical cyclone Chido. “Faced with the seriousness of the situation in Mayotte, the Prime Minister has decided, in conjunction with the Minister of the Interior, to convene the interministerial crisis center which will be held this evening at 7 p.m.”specified Matignon.

“It’s time for urgency,” declared on X President Emmanuel Macron, ensuring that “the whole country” was alongside the Mahorais. Several political figures also expressed their solidarity with the victims of the cyclone, which caused the death of at least two people.

“National solidarity must be exemplary for our Mahorese compatriots, some of whom have lost everything”wrote on X Marine Le Pen, the president of the RN deputies. The boss of LR deputies, Laurent Wauquiez, also called for national solidarity: “I am thinking today of all our Mahorese compatriots and more particularly of those who lost everything in these bad weather”he wrote.

Start of controversy around Jean-Luc Mélenchon

The leader of the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for his part, castigated a “contemptuous and incapable power, occupied by its navel, (which) has neither planned nor organized anything”provoking the ire of Mayotte MP Estelle Youssouffa, member of the Liot group. “As if a cyclone is not enough, Mayotte must also suffer the hypocrisy of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and LFI who opposed the destruction of the slums which are today cemeteries”denounced the elected official.

The Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau assured on “totally mobilized”. “Already 110 civil security soldiers and firefighters have been sent and are on site. The resigning Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, stressed on X that from Saturday evening an A400M plane would leave mainland with humanitarian freight and civil security resources. It will be accompanied by a frigate and a helicopter.
