how this 95th edition takes a step towards modernization

The new beauty queen of 2025 will be crowned this Saturday evening live on TF1, from the Futuroscope in (Vienna), among thirty candidates with, for the first time in the history of the competition, a thirty-year-old.

Always in the crosshairs of feminist associations denouncing a “misogynistic and cheesy” traditionthe Miss election continues its transformation with, for the 95th edition, the lifting in principle of any age limit. Air hostess in the city, Angélique Angarni-Filopon, 34 years old, Miss 2024, is thus “the oldest” of the contenders (previously, Miss France was not supposed to exceed the age of 24). This year, however, the candidacy of a 52-year-old woman did not go beyond the regional level.

Since 2022, the competition has also opened to women who are married or in a relationship, including mothers. The overhaul of the regulations also authorizes applications of transgender women “with change of marital status”. According to the organizers, only one reported case occurred during the Miss election in 2022.

“Embody a strong and modern woman”

At the microphone of RTL, Miss Normandie and Miss Pays de defend a competition that has been modernized. “It’s not a little girl’s dream, although I always loved watching the Miss France competition on television. It has become a woman’s dream, I love the stage and the values of the competition correspond to me” , testifies Lucile Lecellier.

“It’s something that I always had in my head. But I never had the confidence to do it,” says Mélissa Atta Bessiom. For her, this competition allows “to truly be able to embody a strong and modern woman”.

In the Netherlandsthe election of the national miss will now be replaced by the highlighting of successful women “to celebrate real life, without the pressure of conforming to a perfect image, no dresses or crowns but dreams that take life”, announced Thursday Monica van Ee, the former director of Miss Netherlands.
