What actually speaks against any mathematics has been the case so far this biathlon season: Johannes Thingnes Bø did not celebrate a victory in the first three races. In Kontiolahti he was second once, but otherwise the best biathlete in the world always ended up next to the podium. But now this series has come to an end: In the fourth competition of the season, the sprint in Hochfilzen, Bø was able to climb onto the highest podium again. “Now the season is really starting,” the 31-year-old launched a declaration of war on the competition.

The Norwegian superstar celebrated his 86th World Cup victory. Although he made a mistake in Hochfilzen, he skied like he was on rails and soared to first place. His compatriot Sturla Holm Lægreid crossed the finish line four seconds behind Bø, and the Frenchman Fabien Claude (+ 6 seconds). He thus broke through the Norwegian phalanx, because Super Elche are also ranked 4th (Endre Strømsheim) and 5th (Vebjørn Sørum).

Best result of the season for Luki Hofer

There was no place in the absolute top field for Italy on Friday. The best Azzurro was Tommaso Giacomel from Trentino, who finished the race in 11th place. This shows that the Nonsberger was strong on skis, because he made two mistakes at the shooting range.

Lukas Hofer from Montal was able to celebrate his best result of the season with 16th place (one shooting error). Furthermore, “Luki” will be able to attack in the pursuit on Saturday (2.45 p.m.). Didier Bionaz, another Azzurro, made it into the top 30 in 22nd place. Patrick Braunhofer from Ridnaun only made one mistake, but he couldn’t get up to speed on the cross-country ski trail and didn’t qualify for the pursuit in 62nd place.

The rest of the program

The women will run their pursuit race on Saturday from 12.15 p.m., with Dorothea Wierer and Hannah Auchentaller starting from a strong starting position. It’s the gentlemen’s turn from 2:45 p.m. The Hochfilzen weekend is rounded off on Sunday with the men’s and women’s relays.
