Dix days. This is the time left for those who have not yet started to fill their baskets to spoil their loved ones. For all those who prefer artisanal to industrial and who hope to find a one-of-a-kind piece, there is nothing like going to the Christmas market in Bergerac (Dordogne). From grandparents to babies to teenagers, we can glean ideas for all tastes and budgets. Here is a small, non-exhaustive selection made by “Sud Ouest”.
1 Caesar the Elder's soft little slippers
With temperatures dropping, there's nothing like slipping your feet into soft, warm slippers at the end of the day. Babies can also experience it thanks to César Larribeau, a craftsman from Hérault. The young man who took over from his father in 2017 offers a whole range of leather slippers lined with sheep's wool under the César le Vieux brand. “I do everything by hand,” remarks the man who also offers leather caps and fur-lined toques. The leather is lamb and comes from Tarn. » Price: 25 euros, then 35 euros from 24 to 29.
2 The SOS range from En Douce Heure for teenagers
Created in 2008 in Vélines, the En Delle Heure soap factory continues to develop. For several years, it has offered a range dedicated to adolescents who often experience skin problems. To remedy this, you can therefore obtain the complete treatment with a thyme and tea tree soap for its purifying and cleansing aspects but also an SOS stick to apply to the pimple(s). “We also have an oil that we can apply in the evening to the T zone,” explains Anne, an employee soap maker. But that doesn't stop you from having spots, it regulates them when they are there. » These products are distributed all year round in Biocoop and at L'Échoppe, in Bergerac. Prices: 6 euros per stick, soap or oil; 9 euros per balm.
3 Méri-Li bow ties for father and son
She is well known to Bergerac residents but this is the first time that we can find feather maker Amandine Bonneau among the artisans of the Christmas market. For men, it offers, under the Méri-Li brand, a range of bow ties and cufflinks. For these unique pieces, the young woman selects Japanese fabrics and combines them with a “discreet and original feather” (80 euros per bow tie). More fun and more affordable, the one who has been devoting herself to featherwork since 2017 has also designed matching bow ties for father and son (55 euros). “Here, it’s a more classic cotton and you can see the feathers a little more,” underlines the craftswoman.
4 For women, jewelry from Joëlle Créations
For mothers or grandmothers, there is nothing like giving a piece of jewelry. If you are spoiled for choice on the Bergerac market, you can stop at the stand of Joëlle Belugue who creates jewelry in natural stones and stainless steel in Cours-de-Pile. “I’ve been doing this for around twenty years,” explains the designer. What I like is the contact with the stone and the meticulous work. » Amethyst, turquoise, you can find bracelets, earrings, necklaces. Joëlle Belugue also works to order. Prices: from 5 to 15 euros.
5 For everyone, the unmissable turtles of Arts Terres
Caroline Vernet, founder of Arts Terres, who stayed in Bergerac for twenty-five years before moving to Trémolat, is returning to the Christmas market this year. A market of which she is also at the origin. We find its iconic peace turtles. Born in 1998 after a dream of the ceramist, they are now almost everywhere in the world since 17,000 have been produced and acquired. “For me, it’s a link between cultures, they sow peace,” says the designer. Elephants, birds, snails are also there, like soliflores or vases. Prices: turtle from 20 euros; soliflore, 30 euros.
