“Extreme cyclonic conditions associated with the eye wall of the cyclone have started on the island and will continue for a few more hours until the beginning of the afternoon. The gusts observed already exceed 180 km/h but will strengthen and could reach 200 to 230 km/h” underlines the cyclone activity bulletin.
“These devastating wind conditions are exceptional and exceed the intensity of Kamisy (1984) and can be comparable to historic cyclones such as that of 1934”specifies Météo France.
The eye should circulate over the north and northwest of Mayotte in the coming hours. Intense rains causing flooding as well as dangerous sea conditions with coastal flooding also accompany the meteor.
“A fairly rapid improvement in weather conditions is expected from the end of the afternoon as the cyclone moves away to the west”however announces Météo France.
The purple alert could then give way to a red alert, to allow emergency services and public services to carry out the first urgent interventions.
In Reunion, the situation is not without concern for the Mahorese diaspora.
